I used the p-word in kindergarten once and nearly got my mouth washed out with soap. Times have surely changed since then!
1. Have you ever been under the impression that the word "poop" is a swear word that shouldn't be uttered in polite company?
Yes, but only when I was a child.
Yes, but it was years or decades ago when it seemed everyone I knew thought it to be a profanity.
No, I don't recall it ever being considered that nasty a word
I still think it's a word better avoided in polite company
2. Why do you think "poop" has become a more acceptable word over time?
It sounds much less harsh than many alternatives to describe the same thing/s.
Have you heard what passes for acceptable language in pop music and on TV nowadays?!
It's part of a general devolution of societal morality and manners.
I still don't think the word is all that acceptable!

Poo (what a difference one letter makes?)
Dump (as in "taking a...")

No, there have been surveys here at least or more bizarre/unsettling/whatever than this.
