Recently, a man who is surviving cancer wrote a really snarky letter denigrating the outpouring of grief expressed at the news of David Bowie's death. He contended that his surgeon is the real hero, and that the rest of us were misplacing our "hero worship". I had my gentle but firm smackdown published the next day. Heroes come in many shapes and forms, and no-one should put anyone else down for their feelings and/or beliefs.
