In September of 2015 in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada a 29 year old drunk driver going way beyond the speed limit drove through a stop sign and slammed into a mini van which resulted in the deaths of 3 young children (ages 2, 5 and 9) and their 65 year old grandfather and 2 others being severely injured (their grandmother and great grandmother). His blood alcohol content was nearly three times the legal limit. He pleaded guilty to 4 counts of impaired driving causing death and 2 counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm and is now in the process of being sentenced. The Crown lawyer wishes to see him serve 10 to 12 years based on the devastation to the victim's family and his blood alcohol level while his defence lawyer would prefer that he serve 8 years based on the fact that his client is remorseful and that his actions accounted to a terrible decision made by a very good person. Do you feel that the drunk driver should receive a sentence of 10 to 12 years or one of 8 years?
