In 1988, Robert Sternberg, an American psychologist, gave a theory of love according to which there are three chief components of love – commitment, passion and intimacy. The strong physical attraction couples feel for each other comes under passion while sharing psychological closeness and personal notions is defined by intimacy and determination of living together is commitment.
