This year we had a February 29th. There is an Irish tradition of women proposing to men that dates back to the 5th century. Allegedly St. Brigid complained to St. Patrick that women always have to wait so long for men to propose. He suggested that every February 29th, women take the reigns and propose to their men. In Ghana, it's a lot easier for the men. Instead of proposing themselves, they have their uncle and mother make the offer to the prospective fiance. Do you think it would be a lot easier if we had someone else deliver our proposals for us?

For the Daur people of China, picking a wedding date is the hardest part. The engaged couple must dissect a chicken together. If the liver is healthy, they may set a date. If not, they must keep up the gruesome task until they find one that is. Do you have any bizarre wedding-related traditions from your family or culture that would like to share?
