This is the best-known line from The Godfather book (1969) and film (1972), both written by Mario Puzo. In fact, it is one of the best-known lines in any film and ranks second only to 'Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn' as the most celebrated quotation from an American film. The Godfather movies also rank high on the lists of best loved movies of all time -- with The Godfather usually coming in at number one on most lists. So, first off, are you a fan of these movies or the book?

I just returned from a vacation to Italy and Sicily, and enjoyed visiting the beautiful little village of Savoca on Sicily, where some of the scenes from the films were shot. Savoca has plenty of charms of its own, but he main attraction is the village's connection with Francis Ford Coppola's film The Godfather. Scenes for the movie were shot at Bar Vitelli, on the village's little square, and at the church, plus shots were filmed down the winding path from the church to the square. Coppola chose this town in Sicily to shoot his film, because he was not able to shoot in Corleone, Sicily, due to the town's more modern look and because of the nature of the film. Had you heard any of these interesting facts about this quaint little town of Savoca?

Coppola was so intent on protecting the integrity of his film, that he wanted to use the local villagers as extras in the Sicily scenes.

Only one of those villagers had a speaking role -- actually only one line. She played Signora Vitelli, the mother of Apollonia , the Sicilian woman Michael Corleone married, and her one line was "open it" in Sicilian referencing the gift Michael gave her daughter, signalling her approval of the marriage. Following the film she remained in and continues to live in Savoca to this day. We got to meet her, and she even told us stories of how handsome Al Pacino was -- although she doesn't feel he "held up well".

The church where Michael and Apollonia were married still remains exactly as it was during the fiming. The priest who married them was an actual priest, but he refused to marry them inside the church, so the scene was shot outside

After the film finished shooting, Coppola gave the owner of Bar Vitelli (where many of the scenes were shot) a blank cheque and asked what she felt was a fair price for using the facilities. The owner asked only that Coppola pave the road leading from the church down to the bar, and so he did.

Although a popular tourist destination, the town remains the same as it may have been in the early days, except for some framed Godfather movie stills, some stores selling Godfather merchandise and a metal sculpture of Francis Ford Coppola by the road.

Many locations have seen an increase in tourism, simply because a famous movie was shot there. After the movie, Crazy Rich Asians showcased Singapore, searches for Singapore on Orbitz soared a whopping 110 per cent, versus a year ago, according to the site. Have you visited these famous spots?

The dessert in Namibia got a major tourist boost when Mad Max was filmed there, and with long stretches of flat roads, red-hued sand dunes, and an arid landscape, it was the perfect location to film a dystopian wasteland.

The 'magical Greek island of Kalokairi' where most of Mamma Mia! was filmed is a real place, though known by a different name. The dramatic cliffs and picture-perfect white sand beaches are found on the island of Skopelos off the east coast of Greece.

Sometimes a movie location is popular, for one reason or the other. Take Winnipeg, Manitoba, my home town. It has been used in multiple movie shoots. Not sure exactly why, but it has been used in all these movies. How many of these did you realize were shot partly in Winnipeg?
