Whether an attraction qualifies as a tourist trap is often in the eye of the beholder, and some are still beloved by locals. Some are iconic locales now overrun or overrated. Others lure road trippers out of the way of their intended destinations. They might be cheesy, inauthentic, overpriced, crowded, boring, ugly, or just plain not worth the time. Here is a collection of American tourist traps that may leave you wishing you'd stayed at home. Cheapism is my source for this series.

Ohio. The Troll Hole Museum. Located in Alliance, Ohio, with over 9,000 troll dolls and countless accessories, certified by Guinness as the world's largest collection, accumulated by Sherry Groom. With ticket prices ranging from $5 to $12, this museum explores trolls, from mythology to today. Do you find large collections like this to be interesting?

Oklahoma. The Blue Whale of Catoosa. This is a waterfront structure, just east of the American town of Catoosa, Oklahoma, and it has become one of the most recognizable attractions on old Route 66. It is a classic, quirky 1970's landmark designed for swimming. Have you ever road-tripped just to see quirky attractions?
