Located in Amherst, Massachusetts West Cemetery was officially laid out in 1730 and was the only cemetery in town for 90 years. It is the burial site for many of Amherst's early settlers and Civil War veterans. Burial markers placed during the Victorian Era were predominately made of limestone and brownstone, they eventually placed markers of granite especially for well- to- do families. Most notably the famed poet Emily Dickinson is buried there in the center of the cemetery behind an iron gate (pictured). Have you ever been scared by something in a graveyard?
