Do pets deserve to be treated as part of the family? Do we treat our pets better than our human friends? Let's explore. The focus is on dogs but cats behave in a similar fashion. If your pet is more exotic than a dog or a cat then N/A away.

We recently cancelled a road trip we had booked, because we didn't want our dog to have to go into kennels. We had booked a "pet friendly" hotel but then discovered "pet friendly" only included service animals. Is a service animal a pet - I think more than that. I also think "pet friendly" should include regular dogs whose only "service" is to provide cuddles and entertainment. Our kids are all grown up but it seems we still have a baby at home. Here are some clips that show why asking us to not include our pets is asking too much.
1. Pets don't simply eat the food we provide and take other advantage of our good nature. Sometimes they surprise us with gifts when we least expect it and they can be very creative when choosing presents for us. This clip shows how they "think outside the box" with their gifts. Do you wish your pet was as generous as some of these dogs?

2. Unlike our children, our dogs are never happier than when the know their place in the family hierarchy and what the household rules are and they expect everyone to behave. Some pets are quite willing to help around the house and maintain discipline. They can however be a little "dogmatic" about this. Does your dog have the dogged determination these dogs have?

3. We humans are stressing out about climate change and this summer seems to be hotter than expected for many of us. Meanwhile our dogs seems to have adapted just like they usually do. Here are some canine recommended tips to keep cool this summer. Are you as cool as these dogs are?

4. In the quest to keep cool this summer, dogs do not always use tried and proven human methods. There are other methods handed down from previous generations of dogs, from a time when dogs did not have homes with carpets and other light colored surfaces to be concerned about (or do they ever get concerned about these things?) These dogs are taking "carefree" to the next level. Do you envy them a little bit?
