On April 30, 1952, Mr. Potato Head made history by becoming the first toy ever advertised on national TV. Invented in 1949, by George Lerner, and marketed by Hasbro in 1952, Mr. Potato Head first used a Styrofoam head--but it was suggested children use a real potato (not included of course)--and interchangeable parts, but was switched in 1964 to the hard plastic potato head most of us remember. Did you have a Mr. Potato Head?
