There are some cars that are so ugly they attract buyers almost because of it. Sometimes this is a fad, sometimes it's because the car has other qualities, sometimes it is because the car is featured in a movie or TV show and sometimes we are persuaded to like it because of a successful advertising campaign. Here are some automotive ugly ducklings. Let's see if you see anything attractive about them.

The American Motors (AMC) Gremlin was introduced in 1970, and was produced until 1983. It was classified as an economy car but the engine was a 3.3 litre inline 6 cylinder with even more gas guzzling options. All the parts in it were from other AMC models and were tried and proven. This made the car more reliable than most cars of that time and economy was better than most. Production reached 671,475. The car was made in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Brampton, Ontario, and eventually Mexico. It was aerodynamic and quite sporty for that time. Did you ever have one or would you have wanted one back in the day (Yes)? Or will you answer No because you don't like the look?

My next victim is the Ford Thunderbird in various renditions and you can pick your ugliest one because there were several. My choice would be the 1972 one that was basically a Ford LTD with a nose like a vulture. What started as a sporty car became a bloated lump of bean counter corporate excess. A revival was attempted several times without much success. Do you like the Thunderbird name enough for Ford to bring it back (Yes) or should Ford consign this car to history (No)

This next one was voted as an ugly car and it may be familiar to anyone who watched the TV show Breaking Bad. It is the Pontiac Aztek and in the colour shown I quite liked it. It had many practical features including the ability to be converted into a tent/camper for overnight sleep on a road trip. Do you think this one is ugly enough not to buy it?

Here is a quiz to see if you can identify these 20 ugly cars. Some of them I have covered already. Some of them I don't find ugly and some of them are simply French which means quirky rather than ugly. https://www.sporcle.com/games/biggs364/ugly-cars Will you add your thoughts about these and other ugly cars?
