Civic Holiday is a public holiday that is celebrated throughout Canada every year on the first Monday of August. The holiday goes by many different names depending on which province you're in. In 1869, the city of Toronto became the first to introduce the civic holiday when the Toronto City Council called for a midsummer holiday for a "day of recreation". In 1875, the City Council fixed the first Monday in August as a Civic Holiday. Do you think in general in North America, we need more civic holidays for a day of recreation?
