The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics officially kicked off with the Opening Ceremony on Friday, Feb. 4, and the the start of your two-week obsession with figure skating, skiing and snowboarding. Of course, those are three of the more popular sports that will be hitting the ice and slopes at the Beijing Games, but they are far from the only activities you can watch. And some of the other offerings sound so random that you might just want to tune in to see what exactly they are like the biathlon, which requires an athlete to shoot a rifle—on skis. Are you watching the Olympic Games?

But some of the long forgotten former games were even odder. And do you see how 1900 was an especially weird year for the Olympics...Which of these unusual games have you heard of?
Believe it or not, tug of war was an actual event in five consecutive Olympic games, the first being in 1900 and the last being in 1920.

One of the weirdest and darkest moments in Olympic history, was the 1900 Olympics when live pigeon shooting was part of the program. They killed live pigeons for an Olympic event. Shooters were eliminated after they missed two birds, and over 300 birds were killed in the event.

In a slight change of pace, this next sport may not be that unusual, but the team comes from a rather unusual place. In 1988, a four-man bobsled squad from the unlikely country Jamaica (not known for its cold weather and ice) was the inspiration for the 1993 Hollywood film "Cool Runnings." Jamaica has sent a two man bobsled team to the winter Olympics every time, since then, but this year, for the first time in 24 years, they are sending a four man team in again. Can anyone say "Cool Runnings -- the Sequel"? Did you see the movie?
