Results: Spring Cleaning for Spring Training: Discard all those excess pre-season games?

Pre-season games for Major League Baseball (aka 'spring training') start in late February and last until the end of March or early April. Do you think this is too long?

The regular season starts in early April and ends with the most important games taking place in the worst weather of the season in late October. Would it not make more sense if they started the season two weeks earlier so to get the poor weather portion of the schedule over with at the start and have the end of the season happen at a time when poor weather would be less likely to affect the quality and outcome of the most important games?
