Not even the iconic, creative Lego is apparently safe from technology! On March 1st, 2026, The Lego Group will begin selling the most ambitious brick ever made: a tiny computer that fits entirely inside a classic 2x4 Lego brick. When it detects NFC-equipped smart tags nearby, embedded inside new Lego tiles and new Lego minifigures, or when it sees other Smart Bricks, the company claims it will make entire Lego sets come to life — starting with the humming lightsabers, roaring engines, light-up blasters, and the music of Lego Star Wars. Are you excited about this new Lego advancement?

This innovation has been called "ground-breaking" but some are not happy. The Lego Group began in the workshop of Ole Kirk Christiansen, a carpenter from Billund, Denmark, who began making wooden toys in 1932. In 1934, his company came to be called "Lego", derived from the Danish phrase "leg godt" which means "play well". The familiar plastic brick, first made of wood, entered the market in 1949. Since 1963, Lego pieces have been manufactured from ABS plastic. Did you play with Lego as a child?

My kids played with Lego, I played with Lego, and I have bought Lego for friends' children and grandchildren. I don't mind this innovative new Lego direction -- in fact would be interested to see a display -- but many might feel "enough is enough". Does it bother you when everything these days has to be updated and brought into the world of high tech (even beloved toys like Lego)?
