Trivia
Why are there so many songs about rainbows and what's on the other side? Rainbows are visions, but only illusions, and rainbows have nothing to hide So we've been told and some choose to believe it I know they're wrong wait and see Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection The lovers, the dreamers and me The rainbow has in recent years become a beautiful and meaningful symbol of LGBTQ equal rights. Gay activist Gilbert Baker from Kansas, who was born in 1951, was the person who created the iconic flag. He taught himself to sew after getting an honourable discharge from the army in 1970. He met influential gay leader Harvey Milk in 1974, who challenged him to come up with a symbol for the gay community three years into their friendship. Rumour has it that Gilbert got his inspiration for the flag from the famous Judy Garland song Over the Rainbow. The original gay pride flag was seen in the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade on June 25, 1978. Each color of the rainbow symbolizes an aspect of the LGBTQ life: Hot pink – sexuality, Red – life, Orange – healing, Yellow – sunlight, Green – nature, Turquoise – magic/art, Indigo – serenity, Violet – spirit. Did you know this about the LGBTQ flag?
