Anyone who has ever set out on a road trip knows that it just is not like it used to be. Sure, the roads may be better, the convenience of those mega "rest stops" may be welcomed, and the bathrooms are plentiful, but who doesn't remember stopping at one of the many road stops, and just enjoying the view, stretching your legs and perhaps having a sandwich? No gas, sometimes no washrooms and never any wifi -- these stops were for one thing and one thing only. REST. "The Last Stop: Vanishing Relics of the American Roadside," captures a fading moment in time with photos of some of best and most iconic road stops. Here are just a few of the ones featured. First off, the one that inspired photographer Ryann Ford to put out this book:Flower Mound, Texas. He recalls being shocked to learn that the Flower Mound rest stop was about to be destroyed. "The next weekend, I drove four hours north to shoot it, and sure enough, it was demolished a few weeks later." Do you recall ever stopping here?

Bonneville Salt Flats, Wendover, Utah was the one stop Ford really wanted to shoot. He says, "Since beginning the project years ago, this had been at the top of my list. Once I found out that the book was a go, I made a special trip to Utah just to shoot this stop. The salt flats were magical. This has got to be one of the most incredible places in the country."
