Crossword puzzles have been around since the early 1900's, and originated in England. The first known published crossword puzzle was created by a journalist named Arthur Wynne from Liverpool, and he is usually credited as the inventor of the popular word game. It appeared in a Sunday newspaper, the New York World on December 21, 1913. Maybe the most famous crossword puzzle in American history, was published in the New York Times, on the morning of Election Day in 1996. The clue for the two central entries read "Lead story in tomorrow's newspaper". The correct answer could read either CLINTON ELECTED or BOB DOLE ELECTED. Whether you like them easy or hard, the health benefits of them are evident, and lately physicians are touting them as a useful tool to keeping the mind active and young.
