When one thinks of Alberta, Canada, one thinks of Calgary, Banff, Edmonton, even Lethbridge, Drumheller or Red Deer, and if you are from those parts, you may know Okotoks, Leduc or High River. But even Albertans were surprised to see Antonio on The Weather Network forecast map in recent weeks (which shows up on Alberta forecast maps east of Lethbridge) a town no one seems to know anything about. Viewers have been calling the channel to ask why is this town on the map, or even asking if it's a made up town. Have you ever heard or even visited Antonio, Alberta?

It turns out Antonio does exist, and besides its its own forecast page on The Weather Network website, it also has its own postal code (T0K 1X0). According to the Weather Network, their location data comes from one of their data suppliers, and they have over 250,000 named locations in Canada. Antonio can be found on Google Maps and also on Wikipedia as a locality of Municipality District of Taber, which is a small town with a population of 8,428 (2016). Antonio was originally a railway siding halfway between the villages of Grassy Lake and Purple Springs, on Highway 3. In about 1912, a one-room school was built there just south of the siding, where the local children attended, and closed around 1927. For the time being, its biggest claim to fame appears to be as a subject of curiosity among The Weather Network views in Alberta. Do you know a town or locality in either your area, (or an area you are familiar with) that no one really knows much about?
