When it comes to celebrating his family name, Dave Assman refuses to take no for an answer. After Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) denied his latest request for an 'ASSMAN' vanity licence plate, Dave had an oversized decal designed to replicate the plate in question and then placed the decal on the tailgate of his white Dodge Ram pickup truck. Assman — pronounced OSS-men — said he appealed SGI's decision and received a message around four hours later that his request had once again been rejected. Have you ever seen a license plate that you thought was inappropriate?

A portion of a Massachusetts highway was shut down this week, while state wildlife officials moved a family of bears that had set up a den in the median. State police shut down a stretch of Route 2 in Templeton on Thursday morning while state environmental police tranquilized the mother bear and relocated her and her cubs to a safer location in a nearby state forest. Authorities say the bears had to be moved as a precaution to ensure their own safety as well as the safety of motorists. Route 2 is a four-lane highway in that area and was shut down for about 45 minutes. Have you ever encountered a road being closed so wildlife can be safely moved?

Forget snakes on a plane! How about a scorpion on a plane? A woman on an Air Transat flight from Toronto to Calgary on Feb. 26 was startled when she was stung by a scorpion shortly before the plane landed. The airline didn't say how, or where, the scorpion likely got on the plane. Although very shaken by the incident, the woman, who is a student studying in Alberta, said she will not stop travelling. but definitely will check under her seat in the future. Have you ever found or seen anything really strange on a plane?

That's Canada for you! A Kingston, Ontario (population 123,795) grocery was left open on Family Day (February 18), and despite the store being completely unsupervised, customers not only didn't steal anything, but made the extra effort to pay for their groceries. According to Food Basics management, the store's front doors were never locked the night before on Feb. 17, when the business was supposed to close at 9 p.m. "Throughout the afternoon we had about 10 or 12 customers enter the store, and [they] realized it was closed," said Mark Woudwyk, district manager of Food Basics. "Most of them left — a couple did their shopping and left money for us." Those who did not have the cash, left IOUs, since obviously the debit and credit machines were inaccessible. Do you think this would have happened in your city/town/community?
