Several months ago, Columbine High School marked a very sad anniversary. On April 20, 1999 two boys murdered 12 students and one teacher before killing themselves. It was an attack that should have been the exception, and sparked change. Instead, its brutality has been made routine. The series of mass killings that followed Columbine have failed to result in a dramatic change to US gun culture, unlike similar events in comparable countries. Gun proponents, including the NRA still cry Second Amendment, although the actual wording of such "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" does not actually make an sense in this day and age. Are you disgusted by the inaction of the U.S. to change the gun laws to make guns harder to obtain and regulating or banning certain types of guns?

In fact, it will soon be even easier to carry guns in places of worship, schools, apartment buildings and disaster zones in Texas. Gov. Greg Abbott and the legislature declined to ban bump stocks, pass red flag laws or close the so-called gun show loophole ( referring to the sale of firearms by private sellers, including those done at gun shows, that do not meet federal background check requirements. This is dubbed the private sale exemption or "secondary market"). A bipartisan bill to restrict guns at airports passed, but Abbott vetoed it. And beginning Sept. 1, Texans who can legally own firearms will be to able to carry their handguns, open or concealed, for a full week after a state or natural disaster is declared. The bill was filed in response to calls from pro-gun groups who said Texans couldn't arm themselves when Hurricane Harvey hit the Gulf Coast in 2017. Does it sound to you like the NRA and Texas care more for gun owners than the lives of children and innocent adults?

Texas lawmakers, however, did slip $1 million into their spending bill to bolster a campaign on safe gun storage. The NRA opposes the program and it is now, again, up to Governor Abbott to decide on the legislation's future. So, even gun safety laws may be thrown out by Texas. Does this upset you as much as it upsets me?
