The monument has a "chamber of secrets" behind Lincoln's face which was designed to be a Hall of Records with documents describing the history of the United States. The structure's designer and sculptor, Gutzon Borglum, who imagined the secret room, passed away in 1941, leaving the hidden chamber empty. In the late '90s, the project was finished. Today, the vault has panels commemorating the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, the Constitution, and other historical documents, as well as a biography of Borglum. Were you aware? Yes
