Trivia
Ripley's Believe It or Not! is a franchise built on the legacy of Robert Ripley (1890 - 1949), who documented odd, unusual, and unbelievable facts, people, and artifacts from around the world. The brand encompasses museums, attractions, television shows, and comics, all showcasing the strange and fascinating aspects of our world. Visitors can expect to see a wide array of exhibits, including odd art, interactive displays, and peculiar artifacts, all designed to spark curiosity and wonder. Ripley's Stories is my source for this ongoing series, where I will simply present stories that I find interesting, in no particular order. WARNING: This series will occasionally contain videos/images that some people may find disturbing. (Right click or tap and hold to open image in a new tab.)

Dogs trade tennis balls for surfboards at California's unbelievable competition. Ripley's Believe It or Not! has seen some incredible feats, but this one is paws-itively legendary. Every year on the California coast, dogs of all shapes, sizes, and breeds paddle out for the World Dog Surfing Championship, a real-life event where four-legged athletes catch waves instead of frisbees. At this tail-wagging showdown, each dog gets 10 minutes to ride as many waves as possible. Judges score every ride based on: 1) How long the dog stays on the board. 2) Whether the dog sits, stands, or lies down. 3) The size of the wave. While the points are fun, this event is about more than trophies. The World Dog Surfing Championship proudly supports charities, turning epic wipeouts and perfect rides into meaningful impact. Fashion can be bold. Fashion can be weird. And sometimes… fashion can be made of cucumbers. In Ripley's Believe It or Not! Seek the Strange, we're serving up one of the most unexpected style stories: Cucumber Couture. Yes, real hats that are made from real cucumbers. The mastermind behind this crunchy couture is Xandiloquence "Xandi" Bizarre, an artist who turns ordinary produce into extraordinary headwear. The process is as strange as it is impressive: First, Xandi peels cucumbers into ultra-thin strips. He then carefully shapes the strips into a hat form, which takes about 20 minutes. Then, the hat dries for around 12 hours. Sometimes, the hat gets a special resin coating. This helps it harden and last up to a few months. Without resin? The hat survives for about one day, making it some of the most temporary fashion on Earth. Would you wear a hat made of produce?
