One of the women in the buy-nothing group came to pick up some food, stayed and chatted with me a bit, and then out of the blue asked if I needed help. She said she could help in the mornings while her kids were at school. I was a little stunned at the kindness. Have you ever volunteered to help someone you didn't know?
Yes! Maybe something small like changing a tire, a one time thing.

Yes - and it was ongoing. Maybe something like shoveling an older neighbor's driveway when it snows?

At one point I had food bagged or boxed in my garage for 28 different families. The normal buy-nothing routine is to put stuff out on our front porches. But this couldn't all fit under the small overhang, bad when there's rain. So I left it in my garage with the garage door open for a few days, just closing it after dark or if I wasn't home. Would you be comfortable doing this?
Yes, sure

Yes - but only if I was outside watching, like a yard sale sort of.

No, I'd make people text just before coming over so I can put things on the porch.

I thought it was very cool that nobody took anything labeled for another family - or took anything else from my garage, like my bicycle. What's your reaction to this?
That's really uplifting - especially since the people coming were in a place in their life where they were willing to go to get a bag of free (expired!) food.

I'm a little offended at the first option above, it sort of implies people with food security issues might have less morals that people who are well off.

I'm glad it's working out for you - but I would never do this!
