Fort Jefferson is a massive but unfinished coastal fortress, built in 1825. It is the largest masonry structure in the Western Hemisphere, and is composed of over 16 million bricks. The fort is located on Garden Key in the lower Florida Keys within the Dry Tortugas National Park, about 70 miles (110 km) west of the island of Key West. The Dry Tortugas are part of Monroe County, Florida, United States. The fort was originally used to watch for Caribbean Pirates, to help guide ships amongst the small islands and to hold special civilian prisoners. Today the fort is not used per se for military reasons, but you can take a boat to the park. Even spend the night. Have you heard of this fort?
