A British backpacker troubled by weeks of nosebleeds found a three-inch long leech had been living up her nose for more than a month. Daniela Liverani believed the persistent nosebleeds she suffered while travelling around south-east Asia were due to a burst blood vessel from a motorbike crash. Hospital staff examined Miss Liverani with a torch, before trying to remove the parasite with forceps and tweezers as they pinned her to the bed. She said: "It was agony – whenever the doctor grabbed him, I could feel the leech tugging at the inside of my nose. "Then all of a sudden, after half an hour, the pain stopped and the doctor had the leech in the tweezers. Have you ever experienced anything like this personally?

A 43-year-old in the UK had doctors remove a live moth from his head three days after it got stuck in his ear. Rob Fielding said that the bug landed on his glasses while he was reading and instead of swatting it away, he accidentally pushed it inside his ear. "The nurses were all very shocked when I told them what had happened," he said. "One of them used a light to look into my ear and all they could see was a leg wiggling around."
