(Source: Wikipedia) WARNING: SPOILER Ethan and Sean are tech-savvy high-school teens who decide to prank their neighbor, Harold Grainey, by convincing him that his house is haunted. When Grainey leaves home one afternoon, the two set up equipment to simulate the haunting, as well as hidden cameras with which to broadcast Grainey's reactions. The system is set up so that both can monitor Grainey's reactions for 6 weeks live from computers set up in Ethan's bedroom. Ethan starts to initiate activities increasingly aimed at unsettling Grainey to make him believe the house is haunted, including making the kitchen door bang loudly in the middle of the night, disabling the heating system which causes the bedroom window to shatter due to the freezing temperature, and activating the music player in the middle of the night. They end up pushing the old man to commit suicide. The teens are arrested and sentenced to 2 years' probation and a fine, nothing compared to the torment and damage they managed to create. On coming out of the courthouse, Ethan shows how delighted he is while he is surrounded by a slew of reporters and cameras. He enjoys being famous and shows no regret after getting someone killed. Even if this is a movie, in real life you find out about criminals who killed someone just to be famous. A well-known case is John Lennon’s killer, who admitted he killed Lennon just to be recognized.

I remembered not long ago some kids having fun by kidnapping a friend and uploading the video. The poor guy was devastated while he thought his best friend was killed and that he was next on the line. Do you think these abusive pranks that are popping up online should be legally punished?
