As soon as (American) Thanksgiving dinner is over, it seems, the onslaught of Christmas music begins, assaulting unsuspecting ears —at the grocery store, the pharmacy, and even the gas pump. Flipping on the radio invariably brings with it the all too familiar beginning notes of "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer," "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas," or maybe even "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus." Hey, some radio stations even switch over to 24/7 Christmas music. At this time of year, it's hard to avoid it. However, I find myself not only NOT avoiding it, but actually enjoying it. And every Christmas season I ask myself whether it's okay for a Jew to love Christmas music. And not just "Jingle Bells" but songs like "Away In A Manger" -- you know, those songs that actually mention Christ. Do you enjoy Christmas music?

Of course, some of our most beloved Christmas songs were written by Jews. In fact, "White Christmas" is considered the bestselling single of all time having sold over 50 million copies worldwide -- and yes, written by Irving Berlin (born Israel Beilin). He also wrote the soundtracks for "White Christmas" and "Holiday Inn", two beloved Christmas-time movies. Here are a few other famous Christmas songs that were written by Jews. How many did you know were?

For some reason, Jews also love releasing Christmas albums. One of them is also at the top of the list of the best selling Christmas albums of all time -- Barbara of course! Do you have any of these in your Christmas album collections?
