Dr. Natasha Leighl, an oncologist at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, one of the leading cancer centers in the world, says the new face of lung cancer is young and non-smokers. In fact, even as smoking rates decrease, lung cancer is still the most common and deadly form of cancer. Do you know anyone who has been diagnosed with lung cancer?

What is even more disheartening, lung cancer is almost never diagnosed early, when curative therapies may work, despite most hospitals having the diagnostic equipment. Dr. Leighl says one big obstacle in early diagnosis of lung cancer is the image problem the disease has. She says many people feel that if you smoke, you brought it on yourself, plus because the survival rate is so low, there are fewer survivors talking about their overcoming the disease, and bringing awareness and funding to this cancer like with breast cancer.
