Frank Lloyd Wright, who was born 149 years ago this week, designed some of the most famous modern buildings in America, which are scattered around the country. Some are private residences, but others are open for touring. Check out the following buildings, keeping in mind that all were built prior to 1959, when he died.

Wright's first home and studio in Oak Park, Illinois is where it all began. You can tour both his private residence, built in 1889, where he lived with his family, and the studio where he and his team created the concept of Prairie Style.

A U.S. National Historic Landmark, Falling Water is the granddaddy of all Wright's houses, his crowning achievement. You can visit the home, located in Mill Run, Pennsylvania. It is truly a sight to behold as you take in the nature around the house and hear the water rush below.

Taliesin was built in 1911, and was Wright's primary residence, living there until his death in 1959. You can now visit the home in Spring Green, Wisconsin, as it is part of the Wright trust.

Taliesin West served as Wright's winter home from 1937 until 1959. Located in Scotsdale, Arizona, the structure is made of rock, wood, and concrete and was inspired by the local landscape.
