As I was rushing around today getting some last minute things done and generally in a good mood, there were a few happenings that are in the "Why do they do it that way?" category. These are things that defy logic but also show a distinct lack of empathy. See if you agree.

I'm sure the people who design and install shopping mall washrooms have had to use these facilities on occasion so why do they install the toilet tissue dispenser about 1 foot from the floor where, not only can't you see the end of the roll but can't grab your supply of tissue without risking a laceration from the invisible serrated edge underneath. One can only imagine the germs lurking on this hazard. Other than malignant pleasure can you think of any reason they would install it that way?

I'm still in the washroom and now have my ration of tissue. But it is only 3 inches wide and the paper appears to have a waterproof coating on it. Considering what this is supposed to do, does this not seem totally impractical and will probably result in twice as much being used? No wonder public washrooms get clogged as often. Can you think of any reasons why they supply this stuff?

Have you ever taken your own supply in there because the usual stuff is lacking in "the essential factors".
  • Yes. This is the norm in Mexico and many European countries
  • Yes, at Pearson International Airport in Toronto. Ridiculous.

I will be as delicate and tasteful as I can with this next one. Having obtained my supply I went about my business only to plunge my hand into cold water. The water level was only about 3 inches from the target area. If one flushes midway one will get an ice cold spray on ones nether regions. Not only does this waste water, it can cause a dampness in an area one hasn't felt since childhood. Shouldn't the water level be much lower than this?

Have you ever left the washroom with visible dampness in embarrasing places because of the above "water hazards".
  • You can also spend 15 minutes with the hand dryer.
  • Fortunately, no.
  • Find that dresses & skirts usually cover any telltale signs.

This is a bah humbug of a different kind. These days many people order groceries online. Supermarkets promote this as the new big thing. You would think the ordering process would be similar to how we do it in store. This is not the case. We wanted some Brussel sprouts for the Chritmas dinner and there was a pull down menu for the quantity we wanted. We ordered "3" thinking we were ordering 3 lbs of sprouts. Imagine our surprise when we got or order and discovered 3 single sprouts. Not even one serving. Who orders sprouts this way.? My daughter said her supermarket does the same thing. Does this make sense?
