The Finnish Government decided to try out a universal basic income trial. They selected 2,000 unemployed recipients at random and provided them with a monthly cheque of $640.00 per month for two years. The purpose of this test, was to determine how to respond to the changing nature of work and unemployment in Finland. In total, it cost the Finnish government 22.7 million dollars. The trial is now complete and results will become available in 2020.
