Results: 1 in 10 Americans See Luxury Handbags as a Viable Retirement Strategy

About 10% of Americans see winning the lottery or investing in luxury handbags as their best shot at funding retirement. Nearly two-thirds doubt retiring on time, 30% worry about covering basic expenses, and one in five isn’t saving at all. Still, some luxury handbags—like Hermès Birkins and Kellys—have historically outpaced the stock market, gaining around 14% annually from 1980–2015.
