Results: Law Enforcement Statistics

I believe the job with the worst health outcomes is agricultural / farming. But I am wondering if you're aware of the statistics for LEOs (Law Enforcement Officers) regarding annual deaths and suicides? Please check the statistics that you know:

Police officers and firefighters are more likely to die by suicide than in line of duty. To date 86 LEOs have committed suicide this year, about 10 officers kill themselves each month. Were you aware of this statistic?

Were you aware that LEOs have higher rates of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and depression?

Yarmouth, MA Sargent Gannon and his K-9 Nero were serving an arrest warrant. Both Sgt and Nero were shot, Sgt Gannon died, his K-9 Nero, survived but has had problems without Sgt Gannon. Are you familiar with this story?

In Boone County, Indiana, in March of this year Deputy Jake Pickett, another Deputy and Brik, attending K-9 officer attempted to serve an arrest warrant. One of the people at the apartment ran, and Deputy Pickett and Brik took off after him in a foot persuit. The assailant was afraid of getting bit by Brik, so he shot Deputy Pickett who did not make it. Were you aware of this story?

Earlier this week, Officer Matt Cooper, LEO for Covington Police Department, responded to a shoplifting call at Walmart. He, too, was shot and is in critical condition. Are you aware of this story?

On August 11, 2018 Officer Umana of Las Vegas Metro Police Department, about single handedly chased and captured 2 suspects who had committed murder. Who knows if got time off, or returned to the job the next day. He was shot at 34 times. Does his experience shed light on what an officer is at risk for?

No doubt, I have my issues because of a personal experience, however, one LEO death changed me forever & regardless of my experience I have the utmost respect for what LEOs do.
