Female genital mutilation (FGM) is the medically unnecessary surgical removal of the cl*toris of prepubescent girls, largely or entirely confined to those living by particular religious, etc. practices. The practice has been in the U.S. news lately (though not to the extent that some, myself included, would ilke) because of the ruling by U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman stating that FGM could not be banned by federal law. A news story close to the location of the ruling and a discreet video explaining FGM may be seen at https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/detroit/2018/11/20/female-genital-mutilation-michigan/1991712002/
1. Before this survey, were you aware of the issue of and trouble surrounding the practice of FGM?
2. Whose responsibility do you believe it is to regulate or ban a practice such as FGM?
More local governments, such as those of states, provinces, counties, or parishes
3. Activists including Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Mariya Taher are at the vanguard of a movement seeking to abolish female genital mutilation worldwide. Both of the aforementioned ladies have their foundations to advance that end. Do you find this a cause worthy of your support?
4. Do you think organizations and (I have trouble calling them this...) doctors complicit in perpetuating FGM and parents who would subject their daughters to it should, at the very least, be viewed suspiciously?
