Ventura County Superior Court Judge David Worley ruled that Spejcher "had no control over her actions" when she entered into a psychotic episode and stabbed O'Melia, 26, 108 times in his Thousand Oaks apartment on May 28, 2018. Whether or not you have used marijuana, do you find it believable that Ms. Spejcher was thrown into an out-of-control rage after smoking the cannabis?

The correct answer to the first question in this survey is no jail time whatsoever. In all, Spejcher was sentenced to two years probation and was ordered to perform 100 hours of community service after being found guilty of killing her new boyfriend, Chad O'Melia, according to the Ventura County Star. Bryn Spejcher was found guilty in December 2023 of involuntary manslaughter for killing her new boyfriend, Chad O'Melia, in May 2018. Ventura County Sheriff's Office learned that Spejcher and O'Melia had been seeing each other for a few weeks before she brutally murdered the 26-year-old accountant. After Spejcher had killed O'Melia, law enforcement found the woman covered in blood, hysterically crying next to her boyfriend's body, still gripping the knife. She then plunged the knife into her throat when police attempted to disarm her. Do you think someone trying to kill themselves with a knife in front of police in order to avoid arrest is exhibiting signs of mental distress?

Under California law, a person is seen as responsible for their actions when impaired by drugs or alcohol unless their intoxication is involuntary. It only took jurors took less than four hours to find Spejcher guilty of involuntary manslaughter. When it was time for sentencing, however, the judge was lenient and the victim's family was livid. Do you believe this light sentence might embolden pot-smokers to kill someone after getting high and try to claim they are not responsible for their actions because of the marijuana?

Some people who use cannabis are angry as well, claiming that Ms. Spejcher's actions puts them in a bad light and makes people think cannabis is more dangerous than it really is. If you smoke (or otherwise use) marijuana, do you believe this woman's claim makes you (& other users) look bad?
