Gay bars around the world are doing the unthinkable by taking Stoli cosmos off the cocktail menu, along with anything else made with Russian vodka. Venues in Chicago, Vancouver, Los Angeles, London, Melbourne and Sydney are boycotting Russian products as a demonstration of their support for gays and lesbians who claim they are being persecuted in Putin's push against homosexuality. However, while it might sound like an effective form of protest, high-profile campaigners in Russia see it as a fail. Russian gay activist Nikolai Alekseev said that even if the boycott sent Russian distillers broke, it wouldn't make a lick of difference to President Putin and the policies of the Duma.
