Iowa Republicans passed a personhood bill in the state House on Thursday night that would make it a felony to "cause the death" of an "unborn person." The bill in its current form does not provide any protections for embryos created via IVF — which, according to Democrats in the state and reproductive rights advocates, means the measure could easily be interpreted as criminalizing IVF care and services. Iowa's law currently outlines penalties for termination or serious injury to a "human pregnancy," but the proposed bill would amend the language to pertain to "causing of death of, or serious injury to, an unborn person," defined as "an individual organism … from fertilization to live birth" and would be a Class B felony. A class B felony under Iowa law is punishable by up to 25 years in prison. In your opinion, should it be a felony to "cause the death" of an "unborn person" including embryos created via IVF?

Frankly, I don't give a damn. This does not personally affect me. I could easily kill a fetus within me, if necessary. 0.05% 1

The bill still would need to pass the state Senate and be signed by Gov. Kim Reynolds to become law. Do you think it will be signed by the governor and become law?
