Operation Timber Sycamore was a covert CIA program created under the Obama administration to train and arm moderate Syrian rebels to pressure the Assad regime funded with the support of Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar. It was ended during the first Trump administration due to its ineffective solutions.
Only problem was arms fell into the hands of al-Qaeda affiliated fighters.
