Although an immigration officer stated that, "The crown has been found to be an identifier for a Tren de Aragun gang member", experts on the gang say the criminal group does not use tattoos as membership markers. Family and friends of the young man with no criminal record (pictured) say the crown tattoos symbolize his love for the annual Three Kings Day festival in his hometown of Capacho. The century-old tradition and Christian holiday is celebrated every January with a parade and theatrical performances. Have you ever heard of a Three Kings festival?

Hernandez's participation in the event (since age 7) fostered his fondness for designing and sewing his own costumes, and doing makeup for all the women in the parade. Hernandez got his crown tattoos above the words "Mom" and "Dad" from hometown friend and tattoo artist Jose Manuel Mora who has reported, "For Andry they had a special meaning because of the festival in Capacho". He added that between 2017 and 2019 about 60 members of the community got crown tattoos from him. Does this background information make it seem less likely that Hernandez's tattoos are gang-related?

There have been critics of the Trump administration's actions in this case, including Trump's ally, podcaster Joe Rogan. He called Hernandez' s deportation "horrific" and "a horrible mistake", expressing concern that non-criminals could be lumped in with violent gang members and sent to maximum-security prisons as the US ramps up its deportation efforts.
