The Trump tariffs and other musings have had an impact on Canada Trump may not have predicted. Canada's response to this however is something I am pleased and mostly proud of. I think the future for Canada looks bright and hope that TW members south of the border feel as positive about the choices they have made.

The Quebec Premier says he is open to a pipeline through Quebec to transport Canadian oil to Europe. Geopolitical tensions - particularly those created by Donald Trump - have made Quebecers more receptive to such projects. Quebecers prefer exporting Alberta oil through their province rather than risking US interference. They may also stop importing oil. Canada intends to become an energy and resource superpower. This is a significant step towards that goal. Trump's actions have had a positive impact on Canada he did not anticipate. Do you agree?

Canada imposed 25% retaliatory tariffs on $60 billion worth of US goods earlier this year, but exemptions brought the actual rates down to "nearly zero," according to experts. This strategy is designed to protect domestic growth while avoiding a tit-for-tat trade war. This contrasts with Trudeau's original "dollar for dollar" stance. The experts now predict an improved growth outlook particularly in the domestic and non USA markets. I think this proves the competent leadership Canada has and a proactive rather than reactive stance. Do you agree?

Spare parts for Canada's fleet of F-35 jets will be owned by the U.S. With the U.S. becoming an increasingly unpredictable ally, defense experts are expressing concerns about the deal. One of the main selling points of the F-35 was reliable access to spare parts for 40 years. Now that reliability is much less certain. Trump has questioned Canada's sovereignty and has created uncertainty about U.S. commitment to NATO. That puts Canada's plan to buy F-35s back on the table. Given the unique needs Canada has, should it reject the single jet F-35 in favor of the Eurofighter Typhoon (see image)?

For thousands of Canadians, the USA was a winter destination with many buying property there or RVs to get there. Many Canadians crossed the border for other reasons such as to shop. Now the unpredictable and unwelcoming treatment Canadians get and the inflammatory rhetoric from American leadership has caused many Canadians to vote with their bank accounts and look for (and find) other destinations to go to. This coincides with the favorable and welcoming relations Canada has with many/most nations that we can visit and have visitors from. This is a (yet another) positive outcome from Trump's treatment of Canada. Do you agree?

Many "American" TV shows and movies are shot in Canada and Trump has proposed a tariff on them that would intentionally destroy this Canadian industry. I stopped watching this type of show years ago because of the predictable scripts, gratuitous violence, hair trigger intolerance, continuous depictions of racism, and many other negative stereotypes. I much prefer Canadian, Australian, New Zealand and European programming. If these tariffs are offset by a more sociable depiction of life in Canada or elsewhere, I will not miss the loss of this one aspect of Hollywood North. Here are some shows I recommend for TW members that are "available" in North America. Which of them sound interesting?

The Bridge is a Nordic noir (Sweden, Denmark) crime television series of 4 seasons and 38 episodes. A body is found on the bridge between Denmark and Sweden, right on the border. Police jurisdiction issues complicate the police investigation.

Unforgotten is an award-winning cold case crime drama following veteran London detectives who uncover the truth behind tangled, complicated murders from the past. But the deeper the truth lies, the bigger the emotional toll for the suspects, the families left behind, and for the detective inspectors themselves. It is in its 6th season on PBS.

There are many game, comedy, DIY and other types of shows but you might need close captioning to overcome the various UK accents. These can be accessed on one of the many streaming platforms.

There are many excellent Canadian TV shows and movies that don't try to emulate American programming. I don't have cable TV so I can't watch them unless they are on PBS or Netflix or illicit streaming platforms. I find this ridiculous.
