It seems like we have regular surveys about Cursive writing and people lamenting its loss. But is it really being forgotten as much as is implied by these surveys?

While I do think it is important to be able to read cursive writing, I do not think it is as important to write it anymore unless that is to reinforce the reading ability. Why? My opinion is that cursive was a great was to conserve the very runny ink that was used with quills and fountain pens. Modern ball point pens and pencils do not have the propensity to drop ink spots when you lift them from the paper. I think cursive was a necessary method of writing from a legibility and ink efficiency standpoint that addressed problems we no longer have, unless you are still using fountain pens and ink bottles. What do you think of my opinion?

Any other thoughts?
  • At least you didn't add videos to each of your questions like someone here who's name I will not mention but who's initials are JLRAKE!
  • I think if people want to they should be capable of it, but as a person with worsening writing due to nerve damage, I don’t think it’s now necessary or useful as it was. Certainly doesn’t help me anymore. Can’t even read it now. Lol.
  • Kids should learn cursive. I have my doctorate but I only print. Who cares about the amount of ink??
