Results: This is a version of my Blue Monday poll but with a difference. This is a trip down memory lane for the Baby Boomer generation. If you are not blessed to be part of this elite group, I hope you can still enjoy the survey.

History
Every generation goes through periods of change because of technology, politics, citizen movements, cultural developments etc. etc. Here are some that happened on my watch as a Boomer. Some I miss, some not so much and some I forgot all about. My inspirations came from BuzzFeed but I have no idea where they got theirs. I may have enough ammunition for more than one of these, so let me know if you enjoy it.

I was 16 before I drank my first coca-cola and it came in a glass bottle with a slightly greenish tinge. My granddad had brought it home to Scotland from the USA where he had visited in WW11. He had seen the GIs drinking it and had kept it in the living room dresser (a boomer piece of furniture) until I discovered it while snooping. He watched with amusement as I tried it and was even more amused when I burped coca-cola up my nose. I didn't enjoy my introduction to coke but thought the bottle looked kinda neat. Have you drunk coke from one of those greenish glass bottles?

One of the things I really enjoyed when I first came to Canada, which was not available in the "old country," was the drive-in movie theatre. 2 parents, 2 kids, in one car, 2 movies for $5 per car load. Junk food, mosquito spray, even more junk food on the way home, arriving just as the sun was coming up. Some still exist somewhere. Have you ever watched a movie at a drive-in theatre?

Another product I don't recall seeing these days that I was introduced to in the early 1970s was what, in the UK, would have been used to make hot chocolate, but in north America was made into chocolate milk. I'm talking about Nestle's Quik in the (big) tin can. The label optimistically said "mixes instantly with milk". Maybe it did with US milk but Canadian milk always produced lumps of undissolved powder (which I didn't mind but the kids thought were disgusting"). I think there was also a strawberry version. Did you ever try Quik (with or without the lumps).

My first career after arriving in Canada in the 1970s was managing a bank. In those days people had pass books for their savings accounts with entries handwritten and a bank stamp to confirm the transaction. Checking (chequing in Canada) accounts had a register to record transactions and both passbooks and cheque books are a thing of the past. Only in the past year or so has my wife finally given up on the cheque register. You can still get them from Amazon but they were once free and familiar. Have you ever balanced a check-book using one of these registers?
