Katyn - WWII's Forgotten Massacre The disturbing story of the Soviet massacre of thousands of Polish officers and intelligentsia at Katyn, Russia in 1940 and the subsequent cover-up and German investigation of the crime scene. Source: Mark Felton Productions- The Katyn Massacre were a series of mass executions carried out by the Soviet Union between April-May 1940 in Poland. Nearly 22,000 Polish military, police officers, border guards and intellectual prisoners of war were executed by the NKVD at the orders of Joseph Stalin on March 05,1940. Later as Nazi military had advanced in the region of Katyn, they discovered Stalin's genocide. They presented the evidence to strain a rift between Allied partners, as the Soviet Union had joined the allies within a later timeline after the massacre. Russia blamed the Nazis for the genocide, but buried bodies were wearing winter clothing and documents uncovered revealed Germany had not taken over the area that year and when Germany had taken the region, was during the spring weather. Only in 1989, had Russia confessed to this genocide. Do you believe that the Allied partners kept quiet knowing the Russians committed genocide?
