World War II- Part 24-Battle of Britain (July 10-October 31, 1940) Battle of Britain was a major air campaign between the Royal Air Force and Germany's Luftwaffe. The RAF successfully defended their nation greatly outnumbered and prevented a planned German land invasion called, Operation Sea Lion. RAF possessed several advantages including a more advanced radar system, (Dowding System), named after Air Chief Marshall Sir Hugh Downing and superior Spitfire and Hurricanes planes. Luftwaffe disadvantages involved limited range plane often with not much fuel to make the route back when involved on air fights with the RAF. Surprised that while outnumbered, the RAF secured a major military campaign victory?
