1. Rosemary Kennedy was the sister of President John F. Kennedy she struggled with a disability in her early life and was lobotomized in 1941 at the age 23. The lobotomy left her permanently incapacitated with the capacity of that of a two-year-old. She spent the rest of her life institutionalized and largely forgotten by her family and the world for years. She inspired her sister Eunice Kennedy, to start the special Olympics as disabled folks weren't even permitted in sports. She's fortunate enough that she came from money, but I cannot even imagine all the thousands of lobotomies performed on common people and the suffering they had to endure their entire lives. Do you think disability advocacy has improved?
