In 1837 Charles Tiffany and John Young opened a stationary and fancy goods business in New York City named Tiffany & Young (pictured). It was financed by Tiffany borrowing $1,000 from his father, who owned a cotton mill. Charles took sole control of the business in 1853, and renamed it Tiffany & Co. Are you surprised to learn that the 95 Tiffany jewelry and luxury goods stores in the US (and about 300 worldwide) evolved from $1,000 almost 200 years ago?
