A book I read several times is "Tales from the White Hart", a collection of short stories by Arthur C. Clarke. The White Hart is a London pub, a weekly rendezvous of science fiction fans, where a character named Harry Purvis tells a series of tall tales linked to the new scientific discoveries of the time with just enough fact to make the tall tale sound plausible. Harry Purvis has inspired me to delve into obscure science ever since.

Babies have more bones than adults. A lot more. Some parents may already be aware if this but I am still impressed how God (or mother nature) has designed the human body so that babies are born with about 300 bones, whereas adults have 206. To read more on this, check out this link: https://www.healthline.com/health/how-many-bones-does-a-baby-have#bones-in-babies-and-children. Did you also know that your skeleton completely replaces itself every 10 years or so. Not everyone knows that.

We all lose things from time to time. Sometimes we find them and sometimes not. The US military is no different. Unfortunately, among the items it has lost there are several nuclear weapons (at least 32 known instances) where the US accidentally lost, launched, set off, or had a nuclear weapon stolen. They are called "Broken Arrows": ."https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20220804-the-lost-nuclear-bombs-that-no-one-can-find. Not everyone knows that. Did you?

I love the TV show "QI" which stands for Quite Interesting. On one episode it mentioned the Giant Tortoise of The Galapagos which almost became extinct before it could be proven it even existed. To be recognized as a species, a live specimen had to be sent to London to be studied and catalogued. But none of the samples made it there. The reason was they tasted so good and the sailors ate them. Not everyone knows that. Did you?

If you have been in a group of people and someone yawns, you know this can trigger a spate of yawning among members of the group. The same thing with stammering, burping, flatulence and other bodily functions. Even looking at a photo of someone sneezing can trigger your immune system into giving itself a boost. You might be on high alert and avoid coming into contact with a possible contaminant. This is a behavioural reaction. But our immune systems may also react to these images in anticipation of illness.
