As I wander through the TW user created surveys, sometimes come across replies saying "not into kiddie stuff", "too old for". In my case, never outgrew what I enjoyed when young. Plus just because something has a particular format, doesn't always imply for children.
1. Maus - a graphic novel (comic book) originally in three parts, later collected. Written and drawn by Art Spiegelman, tells the true story of his father (a Polish Jew) during WWII and afterwards. The Jews are mice, the Nazis cats and so forth. First graphic novel to win a Pulitzer Prize in 1992. Anyone you know or have known told such survival tales?

2. Persepolis - was the capital of the ancient Persian Empire. Written and drawn by Marjane Satrapi, covers her childhood / early adulthood in Iran and Austria during and after the Islamic Revolution. Published in two parts, but when released as a 2007 animated film, a complete volume. Ever visited Iran or Austria, whatever the reason?

3. Understanding Comics - this is not a comic book per say, but done in that format by Scott McCloud in 1993. One may wonder what there is to understand about comics. Actually quite a bit, tracing back to early cave paintings, hieroglyphics. How did word balloons evolve, motion lines, use of color? How does Japanese manga differ from other regions? Do you still read comic books / graphic novels / manga (not comic strips)?
