In 1976, I picked up a book at the airport, to read while on a long flight, and with the book "Where Are The Children", Mary Higgins Clark became one of my favourite writers. 56 books later, since that book was her first, Mary quickly became one of the best known and well respected writers of her genre. Each of her books has been a bestseller. There are more than 100 million copies of her books in print in the United States; they are international bestsellers and have been translated into every major and many less well-known languages. Were you a fan of this author?

Beyond her success as an author, Mary was also known as the as the "First Lady of Simon & Schuster", as she signed with the book publisher with her first novel, and stayed with them for her entire forty-five year career. Her dedication to her fans was equally admirable. Until recent health reasons prevented her from doing so, Mary went out of her way to meet them while on tour for every one of her books, and drew tremendous energy and satisfaction from her interactions with them, even though she long ago could have pulled back from that part of being an author. She was, too, a generous member of the literary community, especially toward new authors, and was well known beyond the publishing world for her support of innumerable philanthropic and civic causes. Do you find it refreshing for someone in the spotlight to be known and respected for their dedication and their craft like this?
